Attacks and lack of access to seeds since the Russian invasion began has kept Ukrainians from cultivating home gardens and growing their own food. WCK has distributed seed packets through our Seeds of Hope program to people like Larysa, who used the vegetables she grew to welcome our team into her home with bowls of fresh borsch. #WCK #WorldCentralKitchen #ChefsForUkraine #Ukraine #nonprofit #borscht __Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises, while working to build resilient food systems with locally led solutions. Global leaders have failed to take strong stands to protect human rights during 2023, a year of some of the worst crises and challenges in recent memory, with deadly consequences, Human Rights Watch said today in its World Report 2024. Governments should stop engaging in transactional diplomacy and do their utmost to uphold universal human rights principles. Renewed armed conflict between the Israeli government and Hamas caused tremendous suffering, as did conflicts in Ukraine, Myanmar, Ethiopia, and the Sahel. The year 2023 was the hottest since global records began in 1880 and the onslaught of wildfires, drought, and storms wreaked havoc on communities from Bangladesh to Libya to Canada. Economic inequality rose around the world, as did anger about the policy decisions that have left so many people struggling to survive.

The spending bill President Biden signed minutes before the government shutdown deadline on Saturday did not include funding for Ukraine. The president wants Congress to rectify that — but how much aid could be approved in the Republican-led House is unclear. Elise Labott, professor at the American University School of International Service, joins CBS News to discuss how the spending debate in Washington could impact the battlefield.

Support our efforts by making a donation: https://donate.wck.org/give/491532/#!/donation/checkout?c_src=restaurant-videoWithin days of serving our first meals to Ukrainian families fleeing for their safety, WCK began to build a network of restaurants that spanned the entire country, providing millions of meals to people in need. We addressed the crisis on two fronts by paying local restaurants to cook fresh meals for their neighbors in need—getting food to people impacted by Russia’s full scale invasion while at the same time keeping restaurants and their teams open and working. In doing so, we disbursed millions of dollars into the Ukrainian economy. Today, acute food needs in Ukraine have shifted to newly liberated and frontline communities. As a result, many of our restaurant partners in other parts of the country have reopened to the general public, buoyed by the support they received from WCK. #ChefsForUkraine __ Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises, while working to build resilient food systems with locally led solutions.
