A popular indoor skate park at Bolton Valley Resort is scheduled to close on Saturday.The ski resort plans to put in tennis and pickleball courts instead and that move isn’t sitting well with a lot of families.Bolton Valley’s President Lindsay DesLauriers said she was genuinely surprised by the amount of backlash she’s seeing online.She admits their approach to sharing the news was wrong and now they’re trying to fix that.When Bolton Valley Resort announced last week their plan to renovate their indoor skate park into tennis and pickleball courts more than 1,000 people got online to sign a petition trying to stop the resort.”I was pretty devasted because the skatepark, the last two years has become a place that I spend a huge amount of my time at,” said David Hennessey, Bolton Valley Skater.DesLauriers said the negative comments about their decision caught her off guard. “We weren’t surprised there were people who were going to be disappointed about the decision, but we were surprised by the intensity of it,” said DesLauriers.DesLauriers said she takes responsibility for the reaction they’re getting and thinks they should have done a better job of communicating their process with the public before making the official announcement. “We should have done more in terms of reaching out to the community leading up to the decision, engaging the community, and really sharing our rationale,” said DesLauriers. Last Thursday, the resort put out an Instagram post. It said they’re putting a pause on their timeline while also emphasizing the pause doesn’t mean they’re going to scrap their plans. They just want it to be clear that they realize they rushed the process and did not meet their commitment to their community.”I’m always open to hearing other better ideas, but I don’t want to provide people with a sense of false hope,” said DesLauriers. Some applauded how DesLauriers handled the situation.”I think they do care more than any other resort. I saw a quote from Lindsay that was to the effect of ‘We’re a complex business with a lot of ins and outs and we make decisions every day. Different decisions demand different levels of engagement and we misjudged this. ‘That’s fire!” said Forrest Lindekens, Bolton Valley Resort visitor.But others don’t feel the same way.”I think it’s still just a little disappointing. You have people going to your skate park for years,” said Zachary Visker, Bolton Valley Skater. DesLauriers said converting the skate park to tennis and pickleball courts makes the most sense for them financially, but she plans on explaining more of those reasons with community members face-to-face.”Through understanding, we can work with them to develop a really positive transition plan for the skatepark,” said DesLauriers.Bolton Valley officials plan to host a community forum soon.They plan to announce when that date will be within the next couple of days.The final day of the skate park is currently scheduled for this Saturday. They’ll also be fundraising for the skate park in Waterbury.

This is how we spent our week in Bali, Indonesia covering as many places as possible. We visited beautiful temples, beaches, & rice fields and also did a few adventurous activities. Did a lot of shopping outside Tirta Empul temple.Day 3: Visited Ulun Danu temple, Jatiluwih Rice Fields, Tanah Lot temple, and checked in to our next hotel, The Crystal Luxury Bay, Nusa Dua.Day 4: Visited Lempuyang temple and Tirta Gangga temple.Day 5: Nusa Penida – visited Kelingking beach, Broken beach, and Angel Billabong beach.Day 6: Got a nice Balinese massage at Zahra Spa, Nusa Dua, and went scuba diving for an hour.
