This session will be presented by Cassie Carter, PhD, Vice President, West Region Director, Campbell & Company and Dan Nevez, PhD, Vice President, Executive Search, Campbell & Company. Cassie brings 30 years of experience to her work where she builds a shared understanding how organizational strengths can be leveraged to achieve fundraising success. Cassie was Associate Vice President for Development at Hawaii Pacific University and Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and Executive Director of Montana Outdoor Science School. She is chair of Pierce College Foundation and holds a doctoral degree in Teaching and Learning from University of Southern California. Dan brings 30 years of professional experience, including retained executive search, to his work and has successfully placed over 170 senior executives at regional and national nonprofits and associations. Prior to his work at Campbell & Company, Dan served as principal at a premier national executive search firm and was a museum curator and socio-economic historian. He received his master’s degree and completed his doctoral studies at the University of Chicago.

YOLANDA SANCHEZ HAS BEEN CEO OF THE UNM COMPREHENSIVE CANCER CENTER FOR ABOUT HALF A YEAR, AND ALREADY SHES CONTRIBUTING CUTTING EDGE RESEARCH. SHE BEGAN RESEARCHING DECADES AGO, FOCUSED ON GENERAL MEDICINE. BUT WHEN HER MENTOR SHIFTED TO CANCER RESEARCH, SO DID SHE. MY PROJECT BECAME A CANCER PROJECT THEN, AND. AND I WAS HOOKED. AND IVE BEEN DOING THAT SINCE THEN. DR. SANCHEZ EXPLAINS HER BREAKTHROUGH WITH A CAR ANALOGY. THE PROJECT WAS TO TAKE A CHROMOSOME, WHICH HAS A LOT OF GENES FROM A NORMAL CELL AND MOVE IT INTO A TUMOR CELL. AND IF IT WAS IF THE GENE THAT WAS MISSING WAS ON THAT CHROMOSOME, THEN IT WOULD BE RESTORED IN THE TUMOR CELL. AND THE CELLS COULD NOT MAKE A TUMOR ANYMORE. IT WAS LIKE YOU WERE PUTTING THE BREAK BACK IN. I FOUND OUT TWO OF THOSE BREAKS. IT WAS A HIGH AND IT WAS THE BEGINNING OF MY JOURNEY IN CANCER RESEARCH. MOST RECENTLY, DR. SANCHEZ LED RESEARCH AT DARTMOUTH SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. BUT THE EL PASO NATIVE WANTS TO BRING THAT SAME LEVEL OF CARE TO THE AREA SHE CALLS HOME. I THINK THAT A LOT OF WHAT IS DISCOVERED HERE DOESNT HAVE TO STAY IN NEW MEXICO. BUT WE START HERE. ONE WAY THATS POSSIBLE FUNDRAISING THROUGH THE LOBO CANCER CHALLENGE RAISING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR THE CANCER CENTER AND ITS PATIENTS SCIENCE. I WANT CHALLENGERS TO KNOW THAT THEY ARE PART OF OUR TEAM AND THAT WE WILL CELEBRATE THEM AS
