For Lagat, he believes his role is serving the communities in Turkana who are on the front line of climate change. “For me, this is where I actually belong in terms of giving service to #humanity.”This week marks #worldhumanitarianday. As Turkana County coordinator for the Kenya Red Cross, Lagat explains how the effects of drought paired with commodity prices doubling have triggered threats to livelihood and food security. Amidst this, the Red Cross has been successful in running healthcare services and helping with nutrition while giving hope to the people in the community. As part of its drought response, the Kenya Red Cross has supported more than 520,000 people and is working to support 500,000 more people from the worst affected communities by ensuring continuous access to safe water for households. Red Cross and Red Crescent teams are providing immediate aid across different parts of the continent to reach communities hit hardest, with food, water, cash, nutrition services and healthcare. There are solutions to this food crisis. Your donations can help now, and with sustainable local-led action in the longer term.
