HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE. THIS IM HOLDING IN MY HAND A BOOK THAT IS MORE THAN 100 YEARS OLD. AFTER 54 YEARS, IT FINALLY MADE ITS WAY BACK HOME TO THE SEWICKLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY AFTER DECADES OF BEING LOST, I FOUND A BOOK THAT I TOOK OUT IN 1969, DECIDED TO RETURN IT. ITS BEEN LOST AND ITS BEEN FOUND. THIS IS VIDEO OF CAROL PATTERSON MCINTYRE RETURNING A COPY OF BEOWULF PUBLISHED IN 1912. SHE CHECKED OUT THE BOOK 54 YEARS AGO. NOW, CAROL LIVES IN NORTH CAROLINA. SO PITTSBURGHS ACTION NEWS FOUR TRACKED HER DOWN. I TOOK THE BOOK OUT IN 1969. I WAS A SENIOR IN HIGH SCHOOL AND WE HAD TO READ IT. IT WAS TIME FOR ME TO RETURN THE BOOK, AND I COULDNT FIND IT ANYWHERE. CAROL WENT ON TO START HER ADULT LIFE, LIVING IN DIFFERENT STATES AROUND THE COUNTRY, BUT THE BOOK STAYED WITH HER LAST MONTH, CAROL MADE THE BIG DISCOVERY. SO I WAS GOING THROUGH SOME OF MY BOOKS AND THERE IT IS. I WENT, OH, MY GOSH. CAROL PAID FOR THE BOOK YEARS AGO WHEN SHE COULDNT FIND IT. SO HER DAUGHTERS WERE STUNNED. SHE WANTED TO BRING BEOWULF BACK. DURING A VISIT TO SEWICKLEY FOR THANKSGIVING WHEN SHE WAS LIKE, I JUST WANT TO RETURN THIS BOOK. I ROLLED MY EYES AND JUST ASKED HER WHY SHE DIDNT JUST DONATE IT TO A LITTLE FREE LIBRARY OR SOMETHING. BUT SHE WAS DETERMINED TO RETURN IT. SHE LOVES HER LITTLE TOWN. I THINK ITS JUST SO NEAT. MY HUSBAND DEFINITELY WAS A LITTLE SURPRISED AND THAT GESTURE NOW HAS HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE. THERES ONLY, I THINK, ONE OTHER COPY IN ALLEGHENY COUNTY LIBRARY SYSTEM THAT WAS TRANSLATED BY THE SAME TRANSLATOR HERE, AND IT IS ALSO NON-CIRCULATING AT CARNEGIE LIBRARY OF PITTSBURGH. ROCHELLE KLUG SAYS THE LIBRARY IS CELEBRATING ITS 150TH ANNIVERSARY. THIS PART WAS BUILT IN 1923, THE SAME YEAR BEOWULF WAS CHECKED OUT FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, PROVING ITS NEVER TOO LATE TO COME BACK HOME. THIS COPY OF BEOWULF WILL NOW GO INTO THE LIBRARYS LOCAL HISTORY ROOM, REPORTING ITS WEEKLY PUBL
